Hello! I’m Fred Hickling.
Frederick W. Hickling, BSC (Anat.), MBBS, DM, FRCPsych (UK), FRSM, DLFAPA, CD educated in medicine at University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. Trained at St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, University of London, postgraduate training in psychiatry at UWI and the University of Edinburgh.
I helped to establish a unique community psychiatric service and to pioneer cultural therapy in Jamaica & shape policy for African Caribbean Mental Health at North Birmingham Mental Health Services, UK. I now have a private psychiatric research and clinical service in Kingston, Jamaica.
Former Head, Section of Psychiatry, UWI Mona, currently the Executive Director of the UWI Caribbean Institute of Mental Health and Substance Abuse (CARIMENSA). Appointed Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry, UWI. Elected a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists UK, and Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at UWI, I received the Order of Distinction (Commander) by the Government of Jamaica in 2012.
